Matt Simon

Public Safety Consultant

Matt began his law enforcement career in 1995 as a Deputy Marshal with the Fountain Hills Marshal’s Department in Arizona.  In 1998, he transferred to the Maricopa County Sheriff’s Office (Phoenix, Arizona) as a Deputy Sheriff and was assigned as a District Detective in Investigations.  Matt then joined the Peoria Police Department (Arizona) as a police officer in 2002 where he was a Field Training Officer (FTO) before promoting to Sergeant in 2005.  Along with patrol teams, Matt supervised several specialty units, including the K9 team, Neighborhood Action Team, Targeted Enforcement Unit (gang enforcement/fugitive apprehension), and he was an Investigator in the Professional Standards Unit (Internal Affairs).  In 2015, Matt was promoted to Lieutenant and was assigned as a Watch Commander in Patrol Operations before managing the Personnel and Training Section and the Professional Standards Unit.

As a police manager, Matt was a member of a review committee that evaluated the proposal and procurement process of various public safety software systems and he is very familiar with a number of different systems commonly used within the public safety profession.  He was the department coordinator for officer wellness and Critical Incident Stress Management (CISM) with advanced training in peer support and in leading group incident debriefs.  Matt is an AZPOST certified instructor and background investigator.

Matt received his Bachelor’s Degree in Public Safety Administration from Grand Canyon University.  He has extensive amount of experience in police operations/tactics and he also has a strong background in administrative investigations and conducting audits/internal compliance inspections within various sections of a police department.

Matt and his wife, Sandra, enjoy hiking the mountains around Phoenix and spending quality time with their two children.
