Matthew R. Aveling


In 1995, Matthew R. Aveling began his career attending a Basic Peace Officer’s Academy in Southern California. He graduated a Deputy Sheriff and rose through the ranks retiring as Chief Deputy. Throughout his law enforcement career, Matthew worked a variety of assignments ranging from Corrections, Patrol Operations, Narcotics, Gangs, S.W.A.T., Investigations, Internal Affairs, Emergency Management, Search and Rescue, and oversight of a Southern California Regional Training Center prior to his promotion to Chief Deputy.

As Chief Deputy, Matthew had executive oversight of the Department’s Administrative function, Coroner’s Bureau, Support Services, Court Services Division, Dispatch Bureau, Personnel Bureau, Fleet, and Technical Services Bureau for California’s second largest Sheriff’s Department in the state, and one of the largest and most progressive law enforcement agencies in the nation with more than 4,000 personnel and a budget that exceeds $700 million.

Years of law enforcement experiences and growth molded Matthew into a high-level, law enforcement, executive leader who brings an extensive track record of achievement spanning areas such as organizational leadership, special investigations, civil liability, emergency management, disaster response, mobile field force response, public safety, tactics, homeland security, communications, information technology, electronic security systems and much more while upholding the highest ethical standards in all operations.

After 25 years of committed service, Matthew honorably retired from the rank of Chief Deputy with the Riverside County Sheriff's Department, Riverside, CA. After a brief pause, Matthew transitioned to the gaming industry as Director of Security responsible for overseeing the safety and security of a large, Southern California casino resort, hotel, and golf course until joining the NPSG team.

Matthew holds a Bachelor of Science Degree in the Criminal Justice Administration from Columbia Southern University, graduating with honors - “Summa Cum Laude.” Matthew has obtained all levels of certification from the California Peace Officer Standards and Training (POST). Additionally, Matthew is an active member of several law enforcement advisory boards working to shape and steer the direction of next generation policing.

Matthew resides in Riverside County, California with his wife Yvonne, their two daughters and three sons. Matthew allows his faith in Jesus Christ to guide his love for life, country, family, and a dedication to public service. In his spare time, Matthew provides volunteer services as a board member to a non-profit organization helping troubled teens, coaching soccer and futsal to local youth and providing volunteer service to his local church.
